Bread&Butter Berlin

For the BREAD & BUTTER fashion show System 180 implemented one of its most spectacular architectural projects at the historic Tempelhof Airport. In order to use the 19,000 sq.m of the covered airfield as an exhibition hall, a length of 400m was temporarily closed with a 12 metre high facade. The regulations of the historic monuments authority in combination with the statics, construction and aesthetic requirement with the short time for implementation formed a complex profile of demands. The solution we developed consisted of a modular stainless steel structure and 123 air-filled membrane tubes that form an insulating and weather-resistent layer. Through the angling of the facade an extra 2,000 sq.m of exhibtion space was created. Due to the modular construction the individual elements of the facade can be exchanged to meet new spatial and functional demands. For the BREAD & BUTTER which takes place twice a year in addition to the installation we also perform servicing, cleaning and storage on the commission of the customer.
